Romantic perfection, that is the only way to describe the afternoon that I spent with Jenn and Jeremy in Lake Louise! I had so much fun with the two of them because they are undeniably in love with each other! We were at Lake Louise on a rather busy day but it didn't matter, they were the only two people there in each others eyes! Just to make things perfect, the sky was blue except for a few perfect fluffy clouds, the color of the water was at it's emerald perfection and did I mention that Jenn and Jeremy kiss really well? I am really looking forward to their wedding. I have met most of Jenn's family but it's always great to see how families mesh together! Weddings really are the greatest!

Lindsey and Jason!

Nothing could have prepared me for the emotional impact of photographing my nieces wedding! She is the first person that I have been able to watch as she has grown up from a small child into a woman getting married (which also means that I am getting old!). I had so much fun being a part of this day! Watching Lindsey grow into a woman has been a great experience in itself but the icing on the cake has been watching her fall in love with Jason! Lindsey and Jason are a dynamic duo out to conquer the world together! They share a passion for life that inspires everyone around them! Jason is a perfect match for Lindsey with his calm laid back demeanour. Lindsey is an equally good match for Jason with her constant enthusiasm and energy. I look forward to watching Lindsey and Jason fall even more in love with each other as the years go by!

Nichole and Carlos

There is nothing quite like a wedding in the middle of a nation-wide celebration! Nichole and Carlos' wedding was a celebration like no other! It's true that it was a challenge to create stunning images in a crowded park without a mass of strangers in the background, but you can't buy that kind of energy anywhere! Nichole, Carlos and their bridal party were a blast to be around and they certainly made my job easy. Not to mention the fact that both Nichole and Carlos could be top models (can't wait to see their kids!). Aside from the fantastic celebration, there was a subtle echo of romance throughout the day. It was fascinating to watch Nichole and Carlos interact with each other. They have this way of holding each other in their eyes, really, it was neat to see the way they looked at each other! Definitely a storybook romance! Their wedding day was the perfect match too as it went so smoothly that it could only be described as storybook! And as a side note, I never thought I would say this, but I love Teachers!

Melissa and Colin's Wedding

Melissa and Colin had a fantastic wedding day! It was one of those events that you look back on after it is all done and ask "Could it have gone any more perfectly?" I really enjoyed hanging out with the two of them as well as their bridal party! I was constantly laughing when the groomsmen were around. I was also loving the dramatic skies all day long! Wow!

Stephanie and Ralph Engagement

I love whenever I am able to incorporate elements of a couples personality into a photo session! Stephanie and Ralph and Ralph are horse people through and through. Ralph grew up in the southern Alberta lifestyle while Stephanie, an recent transplant from out east, has been deeply converted (you would swear that she was born and raised from here laid back, happy personality!). Including their horses created a richer environment and gave me a fuller canvas to use to create their portraits. Their horses had as much personality as they did and seemed every bit a part of their family. Just to make things even sweeter, we were in my favourite place on earth, the Elbow Valley area of Kananaskis! Wherever I travel around the world, nothing speaks the quiet peace to my soul quite like this beautiful valley. I have spent countless days here exploring both the environment around me as well as the beauty within me. It is like photographing someone in my backyard here! I have to say that my favourite part of this session was watching how perfectly Stephanie and Ralph suit each other though. It was like spending an hour or two in a beautiful romantic comedy! What I really appreciated was the quiet adoration that have for each other. They were always so thoughtful and considerate of one another! Thank you Stephanie and Ralph, you are a shining example of true love!!

Bonita and Pat

I love photographing people in the mountains! There is a different feeling when people are out there. There is a higher level of comfort when you are in the mountains. Kananaskis is one of my favourite "locals only" spots. It is far removed from the tourist traps of it's bigger sister Banff. It has a more laid back, "down to earth" appeal to it. I loved being in this environment with Bonita and Pat. I related so much with them, I am a city boy who loves to explore the mountains and then return to my comfy home at the end of the day! Both Bonita and Pat were very comfortable in front of the camera during their engagement session and we all had a great time with a few laughs to boot. I also took the opportunity to experiment a little with slow shutter speeds and off camera strobes for some dramatic lighting.

Little Warriors Charity Auction 2011

I had the extreme pleasure last month to attend the Little Warriors charity auction at Calgary Bentley. I felt completely changed after listening to the guest speakers that bravely shared their personal stories about being sexually abused as children and the long reaching effects that these terrible events had in their lives. Glori Meldrum, founder of Little Warriors, is one of the most engaging personalities that I have ever met. I admire her tremendously for having the courage to talk about her own experiences in order to bring greater awareness to the public about child sexual abuse. I was particularly impacted when she warned against the attitude of blaming our government for not providing more resources to both prevent child sexual abuse, and to care for victims in the aftermath. She reminded us all that the responsibility lies squarely on our shoulders to pressure our elected representatives to do more than what is being done now. I urge all of you reading this to go to the Little Warriors website (http://littlewarriors.ca/) and find out how you can educate yourself on how to prevent child sexual abuse and how to reach out to those who have been abused. Thank you Glori for making a difference in the lives of those affected by sexual abuse!

A very Purdy family

The Purdy's are a family that I have had the pleasure of watching as they have grown up. I met Scott and Erin several years ago when their oldest daughter was only 3 or 4. They have since added twin boys and more recently another beautiful daughter. Scott and Erin have definitely got their hands full with this bunch, but they are such fantastic kids! One of the things that I loved about this session in particular was getting to see each of their unique personalities. It is amazing to see how each child in this world starts out with their own unique identity! I had fun throwing rocks, jumping logs, and even having a good old fashioned staring contest with the youngest (I lost by the way)! Being in Fish Creek park, it was interesting to see what things grabbed each child's attention. Thanks Scott and Erin for having me capture your family's personality again!

Andreya and Nolan Engagement

I had a session a few weeks ago with Andreya and Nolan. They are both confident people who are not afraid to show how they feel about each other. They have such a great chemistry together and it shows well in front of the lens. Andreya has a very confident, sophisticated style and Nolan is the the perfect balance with his casual, nonchalance. It was an enjoyable afternoon to take a stroll down Stephen Avenue and I was able to get to know the two of them better. It was especially great to see what lengths they were willing to go to get a great picture! Thanks Nolan for noticing the train tracks vibrating and getting us all off the tracks in time! I am looking forward to their wedding in the fall!

Baby #2 for Ali and Colin

Ali and Colin are old friends to me now. I first met them in 2007 while they were planning their wedding. I felt I related well with both of them and I thoroughly enjoyed photographing their wedding that September. A couple of years later they called to let me know they were expecting their first child and would like some maternity photos taken, and then some newborn photos when the baby was born. Colin has a love for photography and I don't think that I know anyone who appreciates great photos more than Ali. During the sessions we talked endlessly about photography and parenting. It seemed like we had just always been friends! Last summer Colin's twin brother Chris called me and invited me to photograph his wedding in Victoria. It has been such a pleasure to get to know all of these people so well. You can imagine my excitement when Ali called earlier this spring to announce the arrival of Sadie's little sister Kinley! What a fun session we had with an energetic 2 year old and an immensely cute 8 day old baby! Thanks Ali and Colin for the friendship!

Nichole and Carlos snowy engagement session!

People always wonder what we should if the weather is bad. Should we reschedule the session? Sometimes that is the only answer, but fortunately that wasn't the case with my session with Nichole and Carlos last month (yes it snowed like this on April 16!). I loved the effect that the thick white snow flakes added! It made everything seem so isolated and remote. Nicole and Carlos really adapted well to the less than perfect conditions too. They were really able to let loose and enjoy the situation, which shows in the photos! I love it when people are able to enjoy whatever situation they may be in. It makes me think that Nichole and Carlos have already established a great foundation of flexibility in their relationship! FYI, Nichole is not a professional model, but maybe she should be!

Teresa and Dave and their sweet kids!

This was a session that I had last month on a chilly morning. These kids were great despite the weather and we ended up having a lot of fun! Being a photographer is simply the greatest job in the world, especially when I get to have fun and play all day long! The best feeling in the world is to see a smile light up a child's face. This is the reward I got all morning long from these 3 cuties! And as a bonus I captured one of my new all time favourite images of the whole family in a dog pile on the ground! Teresa and Dave were actually as much fun as their 3 kids and were willing to go out of their comfort zone for a few great snaps!

Jenna and Vincent wedding in Penticton

I had such a fantastic time on my first visit to Penticton! It's crazy but true, this Alberta boy has never been to Penticton until just a few weeks ago. Jenna and Vincent were married in dramatic location on the side of Munson Mountain overlooking the fabulous Okanagan Lake. The thing that really set this wedding apart from others was the strong family connection present at the very intimate ceremony. The ceremony was attended by just their immediate family and was full of emotion. Both Jenna and Vincent seem to be just as comfortable with each others families as they are with their own. The decision to get married in Penticton was made just over a month ago because Jenna was concerned that her entire family may not be able to attend their already planned wedding in Calgary later this summer. So out of a deep love and concern for family Jenna and Vincent made entirely new wedding plans! When Jenna informed me of the circumstances I jumped at the opportunity to photograph this kind of ceremony. I have mentioned often how much I love my job and being a part of weddings like this reminds me why. Every wedding is unique and each has their own unique emotion attached. Jenna and Vincent, thank you for allowing me to be part of this truly heartfelt ceremony in the middle of one of the most majestic landscapes ever!

Sarah and Geoff's wedding in the mountains

I am so fortunate to spend the majority of my time with people who are madly in love with each other! Sarah and Geoff are no exception, from the moment I met these two I could tell that they were the centre of each others world. So what better place for the two of them to get married than a place far removed from the distractions of the everyday world but Emerald Lake Lodge in the BC rockies? Both Sarah and Geoff have a passion for the mountains so this idyllic location in the middle of nowhere made perfect sense. I personally loved the very intimate atmosphere family and the very closest of friends attending the ceremony and reception. It was clear throughout the day that family was a very large part of who Sarah and Geoff are. I love being a wedding photographer and being given the opportunity to get to know couples like Sarah and Geoff as well as their family and friends. There is nothing better than being able to witness experiences like this week after week! Thank you so much Sarah and Geoff!

Erin and Bryan Engagement Session in the Mountains!

I had a blast with Erin and Bryan and their 2 dogs in Kananaskis. We took a stroll along the icy Elbow River and then walked up Powder Face Creek to the exact spot where Bryan proposed to Erin. Apparently she was completely surprised and had no idea what was coming! (trust me, it is rare when a guy can surprise his girlfriend these days) It is amazing how much snow remains up there! We almost lost the little yorkie in piles of snow a couple of times! Erin and Bryan are a very laid back couple who love the outdoors and their dogs. I am looking forward to their wedding in in August!

A new baby girl for Aaron and Ben!

This is a photography session from back in February (as you can see I have not kept up to date with my posts!). I had the privilege to photograph Aaron and Ben's new baby girl Charlotte. The best part of my job is making new friends and watching them throughout the different stages of life! Charlotte is a sweet baby and was very cooperative when having her photos taken. I have to say that Buddy their dog was also very cooperative! He is enormous but gentle as could be. I think he actually weighs more than me! Heather and Randy's Wedding

Well what a great event I had the priviledge of photographing this last weekend! There is nothing quite like capturing your sisters wedding day! This is the second opportunity that I have had to do this and it is intensely emotional! Heather and Randy were married in Cardston on Friday afternoon and then had a ring ceremony and reception in Calgary on Saturday at the Glencoe Club. Our whole family got together for the second time in the last few months (with a brother and sister living down south it doesn't happen as often as we'd like). I loved the emotion of the day and getting to know Heather and Randy's relationship a little better. It was also great to get know Randy's family and friends too! It is unfortunate that Randy is a Canuck loving Honda driving PC lover, but he loves my sister so it's okay! Congratulations Heather and Randy!

Engagement Photos in the Mountains

I had a great time last weekend in Canmore! Nothing is quite as refreshing as a portrait session in the mountains! Growing up in Calgary, I have always loved the mountains and have always been grateful when I can get away there. I often recommend a session in the mountains just as an excuse to get out there! Jenna and Vincent made the experience that much better. I love photography always, but it is especially enjoyable when a couple is not afraid to go out on a limb! If you have not booked your engagement session yet, then by all means consider a session in the mountains!

Sarah and Geoff winter engagement portraits

You know you have a unique couple when their proposal took place on a cliff face! Sarah and Geoff are planning a wedding at Emerald Lake Lodge in the rocky mountains later this year. I wanted to capture them in their element so we took a stroll through Fish Creek Park in Calgary. Sarah and Geoff are very natural in front of the camera and are not shy to show affection towards one another. I had a blast getting to know them a little better (even though Geoff is from Edmonton), and to watch the way they interacted with each other. Sarah was constantly smiling in Geoff's arms and her smile and laughter were infectious. I can't wait to meet all their family and friends at their wedding in March!

Today I had the chance to photograph Ben and Aaron. I photographed their wedding 2 years ago and now they are expecting their first child in just a few weeks. I love my job! I love winter weddings in Calgary!! They are definitely more challenging, but so much more dramatic too! I had a blast hanging out with Katrina and Zane's families all day (especially the adorable nieces and nephews!). Their wedding was held at the Hyatt in DowntownCalgary and was beautifully designed by Firefly Occassions. The weather managed to stay fairly mild andthe sun was glorious and bright.
